Cigars first originated in the Caribbean, so to keep them in their most natural state it is very important to store the cigars in a warm, humid climate. It is recommended that the temperature remain around 70 degrees Fahrenheit with between 60 and 70% humidity. Any extreme variation in temperature could cause the cigar to dry out or could create a climate that produces weavils (tobacco beetles). It is extremely important to remember to keep your cigars in an airtight place. You may even want to consider purchasing a humidor, which is specially designed to extend the life of your cigar.
