Smoking a Cigar

1. Cutting -

Perhaps the most important part of cutting a cigar is using the correct tool. Your best bet is to purchase a quality cigar cutter. Attempting to bite off the cigar or use a cheap cutter may cause the cigar to unravel. There are all types of cutters; punch cutters, scissor cutters, but the most common type is the double-bladed guillotine. Every handmade cigar has both a head and a foot. If you take a close look at your cigar, you will see what is known as “the cap”, which is a piece of tobacco at the head of the cigar holding the wrapper together. You should cut the cigar just before the cap, leaving only about a 1/8th of an inch of the cap. Cut past the cap line and you’ll tear the tobacco wrapper.

2. Lighting -

Sulfur-free wooden matches or butane lighters are our top recommendations for lighting your cigar. Regular matches can be used as well, just make sure to let it burn for a second or two to remove the sulfur smell. If you use any other type of flame, such as a candle, you’ll risk tainting the taste of your cigar. Position the cigar right above the flame. Make sure not to touch the actual flame with your cigar. Lightly puff on your cigar and slowly rotate while continuing to puff. Continue to rotate the cigar around the flame until the outer rim begins to glow.

3. How to Smoke Your Cigar -

Do NOT inhale the smoke. Simply draw in the smoke slowly by puffing on the cigar and rotating every 30 seconds to a minute. Make sure not to smoke the cigar too quickly or you will risk burning the cigar. After you finish enjoying your cigar, simply place in an ashtray and the cigar will go out on its own. If you attempt to stub the cigar, a fowl odor will be dispersed. You can reuse your cigar after it has gone out on its own, however, the cigar should still be warm if you plan to re-light. Waiting until the cigar has gone cold will likely result in the cigar becoming stale and less favorable.

Drinking with your Cigar

A delightful mix of pleasures when done just right.
